For taller men Tall guys in particular should stay away from vertical stripes as well as pinstripes because they tend to accentuate height. What will work best are wearing shirts that are slightly fitted with spread collars and straight legged trousers, not tapered in any way. Sweaters that have a closer fit the body, but not fitted are also very flattering. And since 3 button suits tend to lengthen the body, better stick with one and two buttons. For short guys Short guys should best avoid cuffed trousers, loud patterns as wells as long suits and jackets. These things will only bring attention to your small stature. Pinstripes and other stripes as well as dark solid colours are your best bets are they visually lengthen the body. Two and three buttoned suits with long lapels also give off a flattering longer silhouette. Also, keep in mind that when buttoning your suit, leave the top button on the two or three buttoned suit to give the illusion of being taller. For ties, you should keep away from Windsor and double Winsor knots and simply stick with small knots to help you avoid looking like a kid. For heavyset men Heavyset men should also avoid bold patterns of any kind. Pinstripes and darker solid colours are best bets for you. When choosing a suit, stay away form bulky fabrics such as tweeds, and better stick with softer wools such as gabardines and super 100s. Wear suits with peaked lapels as they carry the eye upwards. Pointed collared shirts are also more flattering. Some opt for suspenders than belts but you can pick your own.
