Soulmate Relationships: Are They Fact Or Fiction?
Divorce rates are reaching 60%. Are soulmate relationships real? Are they only for a select few?
I'm here to tell you soulmate relationships are real, and they are alive and well. Where most of us get tripped up is in the definition. A soul mate is seen as this magical, whimsical, almost surreal being that is in complete harmony with us. Though this is definitely partially true, soul mate relationships are more every day than you think.
The Encarta Dictionary defines "soul mate" as "Somebody with whom somebody else naturally shares deep feelings and attitudes."
Now you might be saying, that's exactly why soul mate relationships are only fiction. Nobody has this kind of a relationship in this day and age. That is true to a certain extent. Today's relationships have gotten much more complex than in years gone by, when roles were more defined. The man knew what was expected of him as did the woman, if it fit their personality and heartfelt desires or not.
Today we have so much freedom. Freedom to allow our true nature to unfold without gender restrictions, however, with this freedom comes the need for negotiation. Negotiation creates the opportunity for sharing deep feelings, wants and desires.
So today, more than ever before the stage is set for creating soul mate relationships. All we need to do is understand the facts about soul mates.
In our 35 collective years of working with people in relationships, we have found that there are four basic soul mate types. Each has slightly different traits, however each type can create a satisfying soul mate relationship. The secret is understanding these differences and the specific characteristics and making them work for us.
Just this past week Jenni had an amazing a-ha. Jenni said what she wants most is for her man to listen to her, to be her confidant. However, her family observed that she has a far greater need, the need to be taken care of, demonstrated by how her husband pays most of the bills, gets her car serviced, and intervenes when she gets overwhelmed with a parenting matter, just to name a few.
Jenni didn't buy this observation until she took the "What is My Soul Mate Really Like?" Quiz. Then she could no longer deny that she really did need The Hero Type. More importantly she realized what a jewel she'd snagged. Jenni and her husband deepened their understanding and appreciation for each other with this one simple new insight.
Soulmate relationships are for real. What it takes is discovering what type you are, what type he is, and how these types naturally best meet each others needs. It really is almost magical!
