The huge shift from cable channel lineups that had been found on The Spice Channel and Playgirl TV towards On Demand porn has happened because consumers want adult movies that are convenient for them, on their schedules, not on broadcasters schedules. Many top ranking executives in these companies have been fired, let go, or dismissed as a result. The loss of so many long term leaders points to just how much of a battlefield adult movie broadcasting has become. When On Demand adult content had first come on to the scene, adult shows averaged buy rates of 8 12%. Now, with so many options and choices in adult content, shows only average rates of 2 3%. VOD, or Video On Demand, has the support of an overwhelming majority of the public. A main reason for this is the capability of parental restrictions to keep the pornography away from young eyes that should not be exposed to it. Because of this security feature, many people think that the possibility of government intervention to restrict the adult movies on demand is low. On the plus side for On Demand operators, the more erotic the content of a porn show is, the more they charge for viewers to order it, and viewers absolutely pay up. Playboy averages buy rates that are higher than most other operators, averaging 15 20%. However, charges for explicit shows on Playboy are actually cheaper than most other, even more erotic shows. With economics coming in to play and tinker around with the Adult Movies On Demand, adult TV has become a viewer controlled business.
