One of the most important things to know about this type is that it dissolves latex and as a result lowers the effectiveness of condoms. They are also not water soluble so they are more difficult to clean off the body. Because of these things, oil based lubricants are no longer considered a safe way to practice sex. Since it is so much harder to clean off of your body, it often leaves a residue inside the vagina or anus that can lead to a bacterial infection. Overall, this is not a very safe or effective lubricant to use when having intercourse. The last type of sex lube is a silicone based product. These are the newest type of lube and have become very popular because they are compatible with any type of condom. Although silicone based sex lubes are somewhat harder to wash off the body, they last much longer than any other type.
