How Is Smoking Tobacco Affecting Your Sex Life

Most tobacco smokers do not ever consider that smoking could actually be affecting their sex life in a negative way. They smoke on a regular basis and most smokers, especially those in a committed relationship, have sex on a fairly regular basis. It might not be anything noticeable that the smoking is interfering with, but in all actuality it can have a physical affect, especially for men and can cause emotional issues, if not for you, then for your partner.
Tackling the issues that can happen physically to the smoker is pretty simple. If you smoke, you are far more likely to be short of breath, have coughing or wheezing, and can be more prone to illnesses. You might wonder how this can affect you sexually, but that should be obvious. When you are short of breath, your sexual encounter could tend to be a good bit shorter than that of non smokers. It will be annoying to become breathless during sex, for the wrong reason, and have a coughing spell that distracts you and your partner from the business at hand. It is really no laughing matter if it happens to you. This is very common for long time smokers if they are trying to have a sexual encounter that might get a little fast paced and enthusiastic.
For men, they need good blood flow in order to get and to maintain an erection. If you did not know it, smoking tobacco can actually cause tightening and hardening of blood vessels and restrict blood flow. This could make it harder for some men to be able to get the erection they could have, more commonly in older men. There are certain female parts, namely the vagina, labia and clitoris that also swell with blood during arousal. This can create problems for a women as well even if it could be less noticeable.
Next you can discuss the emotional side of how smoking can cause problems in your bedroom. If you have both partners that smoke, it might not be as big of a problem, but when one partner smokes and the other does not, the smell of tobacco can be a real turn off. It can be very distracting for the non smoking partner to try to be amorous with a smoker. Even if the smoker bathes, brushes their teeth and uses mouth wash, there can still be trace smells that only a non smoker would notice. This might seem like an insignificant thing to some people, but to a non smoker that is sensitive to smells during sex, and a lot of people are, it can be almost impossible to enjoy themselves as they could be.
So, even if it does not seem like smoking is affecting your sex life, ask your partner how they really feel about it if they do not smoke. When you get a little older, it might actually become noticeable to you that you are shorter of breath during sex and whether you are male or female, your body just might have a harder time responding in the physical way you might have been accustomed to years before.
